Additional information

The dried substance is non-flammable as determined in the test according to UN Method N.1. The substance is marketed solely in the high water content states (aqueous solutions). According to the manufacturer's experience, and available experimental evidence on a variety of alkyl sulfates, solid forms of bulk density < 400 g/L are flammable on ignition, whereas solid forms of higher bulk density > 400 g/L are non-flammable. In terms of aggregate state, this corresponds approximately to powders and granulates, respectively.

Based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) of substances and mixtures, the substance, characterized by bulk density < 400 g/L, is considered to be a flammable solid, Category 1 (H228), and as R11 according to Directive 67/548/EEC. However, the substance is marketed in the high water content states (aqueous solutions), and in this case, no risk of flammability is expected.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.
