It is prohibited to place on the market or use plant protection products containing metam because this active substance has not been included in Annex I to Council Directive 91/414/EEC of 15 July 1991 concerning the placing of plant protection products on the market (
OJ L 230, 19.8.1991, p 1-32 ) pursuant to Council Decision 2009/562/EC of 13 July 2009 concerning the non-inclusion of metam in Annex I to Directive 91/414/EEC and the withdrawal of authorisations for plant protection products containing that substance (
OJ L196, 27.7.2009, p.22-26).
However, certain Member States are allowed to maintain authorisations of plant protection products containing metam for specific uses and under certain conditions until 31 December 2014.
Metam has therefore been added to Annex I by Commission Regulation (EU) No 214/2011 of 3 March 2011 amending Annexes I and V to Regulation (EC) No 689/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning the export and import of dangerous chemicals (
OJ L59, 4.3.2011, p.8-14).
The results of the pesticide risk assessment of the active substance metam are summarised in the conclusion regarding the peer review as issued on 26th November 2008 (
EFSA Scientific Report (2008) :203, p. 1-97).
