- Endpoint:
- substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
- Endpoint:
- flammable solids
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- April 2012
- Reliability:
- 1 (reliable without restriction)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
- Deviations:
- no
- GLP compliance:
- not specified
- Key result
- Test procedure:
- burning rate test over 100 mm length
- Burning time:
- >= 94 - <= 159 s
- Remarks on result:
- other: burning times over 100 mm were never less than 45 seconds upon testing 6 times
- Conclusions:
- Under the study conditions, the test substance was considered as not highly flammable.
- Executive summary:
A study was conducted to determine the flammability of the test substance, C18 TMAC (Purity: 99.2%) according to EU Method A.10. A preliminary and a full study were performed. The screening test resulted in a burning rate shorter than 4 minutes for 200 mm. Therefore the full burning rate test was performed 6 times. Burning times over 100 mm of test substance were never less than 45 seconds. Under the study conditions, the test substance was considered as not highly flammable (Kamp, 2012).
- Endpoint:
- pyrophoric liquids
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied

The screening test resulted in a burning rate shorter than 4 minutes for 200 mm. Therefore the full burning rate test was performed. The sample burns, melts and flows out over the base plate. Burning times over 100 mm are shown in the table below:

Burning times over 100 mm of test substance were never less than 45 seconds. Therefore the test substance was not considered as highly flammable.
Description of key information
The flammability of the test substance was determined according to EU Method A.10 (Kamp, 2012).
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- non flammable
Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
The test substance was found to be non-flammable in a guideline test; thus no classification is required for this endpoint according to EU CLP criteria (Regulation EC 1272/2008).
