Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Adsorption:

Weight of evidence: experimental result and estimation: Based on experimental results, trichloroacetic acid was found to have a Koc value of 1 and showed little or no adsorption to soil. Using the PCKOCWIN v1.66 model of EPI Suite v3.20, the soil adsorption coefficient (Koc) of trichloroacetic acid is 2.738 (log Koc = 0.437).

Henry's Law constant:

Key study: EPI Suite estimation: It is concluded that the Henry's Law constant of trichloroacetic acid is 1.35 x 10-8atm.m3/mole at 25 ºC. This value indicates that trichloroacetic acid is expected to be essentially nonvolatile from water surfaces and from moist soil surfaces.

Distribution modelling:

Key study: Using the Fugacity_LEVEL3NT model of EPI Suite, EPA (US) v3.20, the following results were obtained:

Percent distribution in media: Air: 0.16%; Water: 36.3%; Soil: 63.5%; Sediment: 0.0845%

Persistence time: 326 h = 14 d

Half lifes; Air: 494 h = 20.6 d; Water: 900 h = 37.5 d; Soil: 1800 h = 75 d; Sediment: 8100 h = 337.5 d;

Volatilization from water; Half life from Model river: 55440 h = 2310 d = 6.3 years; from Model Lake: 604900 h = 25200 d = 69 years.
