- Executive summary:
The pyrophoric properties of the REACh substance (2-Hydroxy-3-sulphopropyl) dimethyl[3-[(1-oxododecyl) amino]propyl]ammonium hydroxide (EC 242-893-1) in aqueous solution were determined according to Method A.13 "Pyrophoric Properties of Solids and Liquids" of Commission Regulation (EC) N°440/2008 of 30 May 2008 and GLP. No deviation from the guidelines was observed during the test. The test item didn't ignite during the tests so it was not considered to be pyrophoric in our experimental conditions.

Description of key information
The pyrophoric properties of the REACh substance (2-Hydroxy-3-sulphopropyl) dimethyl[3-[(1-oxododecyl) amino]propyl]ammonium hydroxide (EC 242-893-1) in aqueous solution were investigated in a GLP-compliant study (Grevin, 2012) performed in accordance with EU Method A.15 (Auto-Ignition Temperature (Liquids and Gases)). The test item did not ignite during the tests so it was not considered to be pyrophoric under experimental conditions. The study was performed on a commercial product (aqueous solution) as the substance EC 242-893-1 is manufactured and used in a liquid form.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- non flammable
Additional information
The pyrophoric properties of the substance EC 242-893-1 in aqueous solution were investigated in a GLP-compliant study (Grevin, 2012) performed in accordance with standard methods, without deviations. The study is considered as reliable (Klimisch 1) and was selected as key study for the endpoint.
Justification for classification or non-classification
The flammable properties were only investigated for aqueous solutions of the substance EC 242-893-1 as the latter is manufactured and used in a liquid form only. The substance EC 242-893-1 in aqueous solution has no flash point until 120°C. At this temperature, the test item boiled and overflowed of the dish just before the presentation of the flame. The boiling point of the substance EC 242-893-1 in aqueous solution is 311.6°C at 101 325Pa. Based on these results and according to the CLP hazard classification criteria, the substance EC 242-893-1 in aqueous solution is not flammable.
