Acute tests on all three trophic levels were performed to examine the aquatic toxicity of the test substance. Algae turned out to be the most sensitive organisms tested with an EC50 (72h) value of 10.28 mg/L concerning the growth rate (RCC 1990).
The LC50 value (geometric mean) of the test substance in Danio rerio was found to be 74.8 mg/L (RCC 1992).
The EC50 (24h) value of the test item on daphnids was determined to be greater than 1000 mg/L in an acute toxicity study according to OECD 202 (CIBA-GEIGY 1988).
The IC50 value of the test substance on activated sludge according to OECD 209 was determined to be greater than 100 mg/L (Ciba-Geigy 1991).
Additionally, chronic studies on algae and daphnids are available.
The NOEC on the growth rate of green algae was determined to be 3.125 mg/L .
In a long term GLP study according to OECD 202 Section 2 (comparable to OECD 211), a NOEC for reproduction of 7.5 mg/L was determined for Daphnia magna (Ciba-Geigy 1992).
Based on these data, the test substance has to be considered as acutely harmful to aquatic organisms.
