Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Conclusion on classification

Classification related key information

Biodegradation in water: Readily biodegradable: 91.5% (ThOD) in 28 days (OECD 301 F)

Log Kow: 2.8 (average value from seven sources)

Acute toxicity:

- to fish: LC50 (96h) = 6.4 mg/L for Danio rerio (OECD 203)

- to aquatic invertebrates: EC50 (48h) = 15.4 mg/L for Daphnia magna (ISO 634115)

- to algae: ECr50 (72h) = 16 mg/L, for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata (OECD 201)

Chronic toxicity:

- to fish: NOEC 0.165 mg/L for Danio rerio (OECD 234)

- to aquatic invertebrates: NOEC 0.25 mg/L for Daphnia magna (OECD 211)

- to algae: NOEC (72h) = 2.1 mg/L for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata (OECD 201)

Classification justification

Based on the data above the substance is considered rapidly biodegradable. The acute aquatic toxicity LC50 is > 1 mg/L for all trophic levels. Chronic data are available for algae and invertebrates. The NOEC for Danio rerio is < 1 mg/L. Therefore, propylparaben has to be classified as H412: Harmfull to aquatic life with long lasting effects (Category 3)
