First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Move to area of fresh air and give artificial respiration if
breathing has stopped. If there are signs of discomfort,
seek medical advice. Show copy of SDS or label to medical
Emergency measure - Eyes: Hold eyelids apart and flush with plenty of water for at
least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention and treat as for
acid contamination. Show copy of label or SDS to the
medical staff.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with water and mild soap or detergent. If signs of
discomfort, seek medical attention. Remove contaminated
clothing and wash thoroughly before re-use.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Vomiting may be induced by trained personnel if the person
is conscious.

If signs of discomfort, seek medical advice. Show copy of
SDS or label to medical staff.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Dry foam, powder, water spray, carbon dioxide and other
extinguishing agents. No adverse reaction with normal
extinguishing agents is known, although pyrolysis
by-products following use of water may include sulphurous
acids. Evaluate the nature of the incident before using
water. Use appropriate medium for the underlying cause of
the fire and with respect to types of equipment in use.

Product arising from burning: Complete combustion will lead to the formation of carbon
dioxide, sulphur oxides and water. Incomplete combustion
(eg. in enclosed spaces) will result in volatile organic
derivatives and carbon monoxide. If water is present,
sulphur oxides may dissolve to form sulphurous acids.

Protective equipment: Full protective equipment is recommended including breathing
apparatus, suitable gloves, goggles and face protection.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Collect and place into suitably labelled containers for
reclamation or disposal in accordance with local
regulations. Residues and minor spills may be washed away
with water to process drainage system if permitted under
local regulations.

Protective clothing should be worn including suitable
gloves, eye/face protection, coveralls and respirator. Care
should be taken to avoid the generation of dust.

Handling and storage

Handling: Environmental controls such as local exhaust ventilation
should be in place to reduce dust levels. In addition,
operators should use the necessary protective equipment to
EN 136, coveralls, latex or other impermeable gloves and
safety glasses. Rubber, neoprene or other gloves may be
required if solvents, corrosives or other chemicals are

Equipment should be bonded and earthed to control static
charges when handling the powder. Powder handling equipment
such as dust collectors, dryers and mills may require
additional protective measures (eg. explosion venting).

Storage: Store in polyethylene lined fibre drums. Ensure the
containers are suitably labelled.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: BMS 187266-02 is packed in UN approved polyethylene lined
fibre drums.
