Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

For the substance as such, zinc bis(2-ethylhexanoate), no aquatic toxicity studies are available. Thus, read-across to the assessment entities soluble zinc substances and 2-ethylhexanoic acid is applied since the ions of zinc bis(2-ethylhexanoate) determine its fate and toxicity in the environment.

2-ethylhexanoic acid: 21-d NOEC values of two studies with Daphnia range from 18 mg/L to 25 mg/L.

Zinc: Data on 13 freshwater species are available and the corresponding species NOECs range from 0.014 to 0.400 mg Zn/L (dissolved). Data for 26 marine species indicate a species NOEC between 0.0056 and 0.9 mg Zn/L (dissolved). The respective species NOEC/EC10 values are applied in the species sensitivity distribution approach.

In sum, zinc bis(2-ethylhexanoate) has potential for long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates.
