Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In contact with water the substance will hydrolyse slowly.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

There is one study availbale regarding hydrolysis of 1,4-bis[(ethenyloxy)methyl]cyclohexane in water according to EU method C.7 (Life Science Research 1991). At pH 4 and 50°C more than 50% of the test substance hydrolised in less than 2.4 h. Applying a factor of 10, one can extrapolate to the half-life at 25°C. Hence at pH 4 and 25°C the half-life should be less than 24 hours. At pH 7 and 25°C a half-life of 27.3 hours was measured while at pH 9 and 25 °C a half-life of 80.3 days was found. The products of hydrolysis were not measured. Due to the molecular structure, the cleavage will occur at the ether bonds to form acetaldehyde and 1-Cyclohexandiol-4 -vinylther and, aftter total hydrolysis 1,4 -Cyclohexandiol.

Due to the fact that all studies on acute toxicity on aquatic organisms were performed at pH- values of 7 or higher, hydrolysis is of no concern.
