Description of key information
Additional information
Appearance:
The substance, 1,8-bis[(4-methylphenyl)amino]anthraquinone, is an organic solid present as violet powder.
Experimental data from Lanxess SDS suggests that the chemical Solvent Violet 36 is odorless violet colored powder.
Melting Point:
The melting point determination of 1,8-bis[(4-methylphenyl)amino ]anthraquinone (CAS No. 82-16-6)was done following OECD Guideline 102 and according to the metal block capillary method. The test was conducted in replicates and mean melting point range was found to be 189°C -195.2 °C at 968.2.hPa.
Boiling point:
The boiling point determination of Test item1,8-bis[(4-methylphenyl)amino ]anthraquinone(CAS No. 82-16-6) was done as per the test guideline OECD 103. The method followed was according to Siwoloboff. The boiling point was found to be greater than 250°C at 968.9 hPa.
Density:
The density of test item1,8-bis[(4-methylphenyl)amino ]anthraquinone(CAS No. 82-16-6)was determined following OECD guideline 109 and according to the method adapted from ASTM D 854-02. The mean density of the test item was found to be1.342 g/cm3at 20oC and 966.6 hPa.
Particle Size Distribution:
The particle size distribution of test item 1,8-bis[(4-methylphenyl)amino]anthraquinone (CAS No. 82-16-6) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was found to be in the range of 150 micron to 53 micron.
Vapor Pressure:
Modified Grain method was used to estimate the vapour pressure of the test chemical using MPBPVP v1.43 of EPI SUITE. The estimated vapor pressure of the test chemical is 3.02E-011 Pa at 25°C
It is reported as 0.000000001 Pa for the chemical safety assessment due to the limitation in the field.
Partition Coefficient:
KOWWIN v1.68 of EPI SUITE was used to estimate the octanol water partition coefficient of the test chemical. The estimated log Pow of the test chemical was 9.2356.
Based on this value, it can be concluded thatthe test chemical9,10-Anthracenedione, 1,8-bis (4-methylphenyl)amino is hydrophobic in nature.
Water Solubility:
WATERNT v1.01 of EPISUITE was used to estimate the water solubility of the test chemical.
The estimated water solubility of the test chemical at 25 deg C was 8.5841e-005 mg/L.
Based on the results, it can be concluded that the test chemical is insoluble in water.
Surface Tension:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical 1,8-bis[(4-methylphenyl)amino]anthraquinone is used as a laboratory chemical. For this use, surface activity is not desired property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.
Flash point:
The flash point determination of Test item1,8-bis[(4-methylphenyl)amino ]anthraquinone(CAS No. 82-16-6) was done. The method is closed cup method using Pensky-Martens Flash Point Apparatus. The flashpoint of the test item was found to be 179°C at 968.2 hPa.
Auto Flammability:
1,8-bis[(4-methylphenyl)amino]-9,10-anthraquinone did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C and atmospheric pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that 1,8-bis[(4-methylphenyl)amino]-9,10-anthraquinone is not auto-flammable
Flammability:
The chemical 1,8-bis[(4-methylphenyl)amino]anthraquinone has a high flash point of 197oC. Thus, the chemical is unlikely to be "Flammable" under normal conditions of use, storage and transportation and hence this end point was considered for waiver & the chemical is classified as "Non Flammable".
Explosiveness:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study does not need to be conducted since there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule of 1,8-bis[(4-methylphenyl)amino]anthraquinone. Thus, this end point was considered for waiver and the chemical is considered to be "Non explosive".
Oxidising Properties:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the substance 1,8-bis[(4-methylphenyl)amino]anthraquinone is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of the chemical structure. It is an organic substance containing oxygen but no halogen atom and these elements are not chemically bonded to nitrogen or oxygen. Thus, the chemcial is likely to be "Non-oxidising".
pH:
The pH determination of test item1,8-bis[(4-methylphenyl)amino ]anthraquinone(CAS No. 82-16-6) was done as per the test guideline OECD 122. The pH of the test solution was determined with the help of digital pH meter. The pH was found to be 6.25 at 34 °C.
Viscosity:
In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, information requirement section 7.17, this study cannot be conducted on solid materials or gases. According to ECHA Chapter 7 guidance, viscosity measurement is only relevant to liquids.9,10-Anthracenedione, 1,8-bis (4-methylphenyl)amino - is a violet colored powder.Hence this study can be considered for waiver.
