Description of key information
Additional information
Appearance
On the basis of physical observation, 2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine was found to be an organic solid present as greenish to brownish powder.
Melting point/freezing point
The melting point determination of Test item2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine(CAS No. 5307-14-2) was done as per the test guideline OECD 102. The method followed was according toCapillary/metal block. The melting point range was found to be 135.3 °C -141.3 °C at 964.3 hPa. No decomposition and sublimation was observed at this temperature.
Boiling point
The boiling point determination of2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine (CAS No. 5307-14-2) wasdone following OECD Guideline 103 and according to the method of Siwoloboff. The boiling point was found to be greater than 250°C at 965.4 hPa
Density
The mean density of test item2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine (CAS No. 5307-14-2 )was determined following OECD Guideline 109 and according to theaccording to themethod recommended in the International Pharmacopoeia, fourth Edition, 2014 using bulk density apparatus. The mean pour density and tapped density of the test item was found to be 0.6458 g/cm3and 0.7692 g/cm3at 28.6oC and 964.3 hPa.
Particle size distribution (Granulometry)
The particle size distribution of test item 2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine (CAS No. 5307-14-2 ) was determined by granulometric analysis with rotap sieve shaker. The particle size distribution was found to be in the range of 150 micron to 25 micron.
Vapour pressure
Vapour pressure of 2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine is found to be 0.000056 mmHg
Partition coefficient
The octanol-water partition coefficient (log kow) of 2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine is estimated to be 0.55.
This value indicates that the substance is hydrophillic in nature.
Water solubility
The water solubility determination of test substance 2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine was done as per the shake flask method. The solubility was found to be 960 mg/L at 28.6°C. Thus the chemical is considered to be moderately soluble.
Surface tension
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the study need only be conducted if surface activity is a desired property of the chemical. The chemical2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine is used as a hair and cosmetic color. For this use, surface activity is not an important property. Hence this study was considered for waiver.
Flash point
The flash point of 2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine is >189 °C at 966.1 hPa
Auto flammability
The chemical 2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine does not catch fire upon exposure to air at normal conditions of temperature and pressure. Thus the chemical is not likely to be "Auto flammable" and hence this end point was considered for waiver.
Flammability
The chemical 2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine has an NFPA rating of 0 for Flammability. Thus the chemical is not likely to be "Flammable" under normal conditions of use, storage and transportation and hence this end point was considered for waiver.
Explosiveness
The chemical 2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine, does not exhibit explosive properties as per the manufacturer. Thus, this end point was considered for waiver.
Oxidising properties
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REACH regulation, the substance 2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of the chemical structure. Thus, the chemcial is likely to be "Non-oxidising".
pH
The pH determination of test item2-nitro-p-phenylenediamine(CAS No. 5307-14-2) was done as per the test guideline OECD 122. The pH of the test solution was determined with the help of digitalpH meter.. The mean pH was found to be 7.15 at 27°C. Thus, 1% solution can be considered to be near neutral in pH.
