Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the water solubility of the read across substance Reaktiv Scharlach F97 -0319 according to EU Method A.6, in compliance with GLP. Based on the results of a preliminary experiment where the solubility of the test substance was ca. 50 -100 g/L, the "flask method" was further selected. Two weighed amounts of the test substance (ca. 12.5 g) were added in portions to 25 mL of distilled water and stirred for 3 h at 20.0°C. Aliquots of the saturated aqueous phase were taken and centrifugated (15 min, 5000 rpm). A 1.0 mL aliquot of the residual pellet was diluted with water and filled up to 100 mL. A 5.0 mL aliquot of this solution was further taken and diluted with water to a volume of 25 mL. The concentration of the test substance was determined by HPLC. The water solubility was corrected with respect to the purity of the test substance (52% w/w). Under the study conditions, the water solubility of the substance coule be considered to be 64800 mg/L at 20.0°C (Mühlberger, 1999).
