Based on the prediction done using the OECD QSAR toolbox version 3.3 with log kow as the primary descriptor and considering the closest read across substances, the toxicity to aquatic invertebrate was predicted 4-[(5-amino-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)azo]-2,5-dichlorobenzenesulphonic acid (CAS: 12239-15-5). EC50 intoxication value was estimated to be 215.30 mg/l for Daphnia magna for 48 hrs duration. The effective concentration EC50 value for short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates for Sulfanilic acid (CAS: 121-57-3) in 24 hrs is 109.13 mg/l. It can be concluded from the value that the Sulphanilic acid is not toxic to the aquatic invertebrate.Based on the result, Sulfanilic acid (CAS: 121-57-3) was considered as "not classified" as per the CLP regulations.
Another supporting experimental study for the structurally similar read across 2-aminoanthraquinone (CAS: 117-79-3) from the secondary source, suggests that the To study the effects of 2-aminoanthraquinone on aquatic invertebrate short term toxicity test was carried out for 48 hrs. mobility was measured during the test.
Effective concentration EC50 to 50% of Daphnia magna when exposed to 2-aminoanthraquinone for 48 hr is 378 mg/L. It can be concluded from the intoxication value that the 2-aminoanthraquinone (CAS: 117-79-3) is not toxic to the aquatic inverbrateand can be considered as “not classified” as per the classification criteria for aquatic environment.
Thus based on the effect concentrations which is in the range 109.13 mg/l to 378 mg/l give the conclusion that test substance 4-[(5-amino-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)azo]-2,5-dichlorobenzenesulphonic acid (CAS: 12239-15-5) was likely to be not toxic to aquatic invertebrate at environmentally relevant concentrations and can be considered to be “not classified” as per the CLP classification criteria.
