Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media
- Suitable : All extinguishing agents can be used (water, foam, powders, carbon dioxide, sand ...).
- Not suitable : None to our knowledge. If there is a fire close by, use suitable extinguishing agents.
Specific hazards : On heating or during combustion: Corrosive vapours are released. Dense white fumes are given off which may obscure the area Toxic and highly flammable gases are released, which increase fire/explosion hazards.
Specific fire fighting methods : Usual methods for dealing with chemical fires. Cool down the containers/equipment exposed to heat with a water spray.
Protection of fire-fighters : Self-contained breathing apparatus. Complete protective clothing.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions Avoid contact with skin and eyes. If spillage occurs on the public highway, indicate the danger and notify the authorities (police, fire brigade). - full protective clothing and equipment.
Environmental precautions: Contain the spilled material by bunding. Avoid direct discharge into drains.
Methods for cleaning up
- Recovery : Recover as much of the product as possible. Absorb the product onto porous material. Transfer the product into a spare container: - suitably labelled. Then take the emergency containers to an area reserved for subsequent recycling or disposal.
- Neutralization : Neutralize with : - calcium hydroxide. - sodium bicarbonate Absorb spillage with: - diatomaceous earth- sand or inert absorbent.
- Cleaning/Decontamination : Wash non-recoverable remainder with large amounts of water.
Disposal Do NOT discharge into drains.
Dispose of all contaminated materials in accordance with current regulations. Place in an appropriate container and dispose of the contaminated material at a licensed site.
Handling and storage
Handling
Technical Measures : Only use materials resistant to acids.
Safe handling advice : Handle and use in accordance with good occupational and hygiene practice.
Storage :
Technical Measures : Take all necessary precautions to avoid the accidental release of the product outisde due to the rupture of containers or transfer systems. Ensure there is a suitable retention system. Storage facilities should be dry.
Storage conditions:
Recommended : Store in a cool dry area.
Incompatbile products : Oxidising agents and oxidising materials. Alkalis and caustic products.
Packaging materials recommended: Plastic materials (polyethylene, polypropylene) - high density.
Not suitable : Metals.
Very corrosive to metals. Hydrogen is release which forms an explosive mixture in air.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Engineering measures : No specific measures are required provided the product is handled in accordance with the general rules of occupational hygiene and safety.
Control parameters
Exposure limit values (Human Health) Limits (UK) : No specific limits
Personal protective equipment
Hand protection : protective gloves made of PVC. Use suitable chemical-resistant protective gloves (compliant with Standard EN374-1).
Protective gloves must be chosen according to the function of the work station: other chemicals which may be handled, physical protection necessary (resistance to cutting, puncture, heat), dexterity required. The selection of gloves must take into account the extent and duration of use at the work station.
Eye protection : Goggles.
Skin and body protection : protective clothing. Safety footwear.
Selection criteria : Protective equipment must be chosen according to current CEN standards and in cooperation with the supplier of protective equipment. Personal protective equipment must be defined after risk assessment for the workstation.
Collective emergency equipment : safety shower. Eye fountain.
Hygiene measures : Keep personal protective equipment in a clean place, away from the work area. Use clean and correctly maintained personal protective equipment. Always wash your hands after handling the product.
Do NOT eat or drink in the workplace.
Further information : The user is responsible for monitoring the working environment in accordance with local laws and regulations.
Stability and reactivity
Stability : Stable at ambient temperature and under normal conditions of use.
Hazardous reactions
Conditions to avoid : Decomposes above 200°C
Materials to avoid : oxidising agenst; alkalis and caustic products.
Hazardous decomposition products : On combustion or on thermal decomposition (following the evaporation of water) releases carbonoxides. Corrosive vapours (CO + CO2) (phosphorus oxides). Above 200°C releases Phosphine. The phosphine will burn on to phosphorus pentoxide unless there is insufficient fresh air.
Further information : Attacks many metals releasing highly flammable gas (hydrogen) which generates fire or explosion hazards.
Disposal considerations
Residues from Product
Prohibition : Do not discharge waste into drains.
Destruction/Disposal : Take all necessary precautions when disposing of this product. Dispose of in accordance with relevant local regulations. Dispose of at a licensed waste collection point.
Contaminated Packaging
Decontamination/cleaning : Empty the packaging completely prior to disposal. Rinse with water.
Destruction/Disposal : Recycle following cleaning or dispose of at an authorised site.
NOTE : The user's attention is drawn to the possible existence of local regulations regarding disposal.
