Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Executive summary:

This method is to determine the Freezing point of GL500.

Freezing point apparatus : Glass test tube of nominal size 150 x 25 mm placed inside another tube of nominal size 160 x 38 mm. The latter tube is flanged, and was supported centrally in a Dewar flask filled to within 20 mm of the top with cooling medium.

The thermometer was calibrated using the freezing point of distilled water giving 0.1 ℃. The temperature accuracy of the thermometer was assessed using distilled water. The freezing temperature was determined

to be 0.1 ℃ and within the defined tolerance (0.0 ± 0.5 ℃). The instrument was therefore considered acceptable for use.

A sample of the substance (approximately 10 mL) was placed in a test tube and stirred continuously until the test substance viscosity physically prevented it. As the sample was cooled by liquid nitrogen, its

temperature was measured at regular intervals. As soon as the temperature remained constant for a few readings, this temperature was recorded as the freezing temperature.

- Freezing point is given in degrees Celsius (℃) and Kelvin (K).

- Temperature in Kelvin = Temperature in ℃ + 273.15

The Freezing temperature of GL500 was -46°C (228 K) at 100.7 kPa.
