Description of key information

Based on a weight of evidence approach, the acute toxicity of thymus zygis oil to aquatic green algae can be estimated using adequate toxicity date of major constituents. Five constituents were considered representing more than 82.4% of the UVCB substance. These data are summarized in the table below :

Main constituent  CAS Number  EC50 Green algae 96h (mg/L)  Source
 Thymol (at 51%) 89-93-8   4.658  ECOSAR v1.11
 P-cymene (at 16%) 99-87-6  1.936  ECOSAR v1.11
 Gamma-terpinene (at 8.7%) 99-85-4   0.592  ECOSAR v1.11
 Linalol (at 3.6%) 78-70-6  5.929  ECOSAR v1.11
 Carvacrol (at 3.1%) 499-75-2  4.658  ECOSAR v1.11

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
2.34 mg/L

Additional information

With a EC50algae value of 2.34 mg/l and some constituents (thymol with log Kow <4), the substance is not classified according to the table 4.1.0 of CLP regulation.
