- Justification:
P/vP 1,1'-Bis(ferrocenyl)octant, CAS Number 501410 -94 -2, EC Number 479 -710 -1
The ready biodegradability of 1,1'-Bis(ferrocenyl)octane, CAS Number 501410-94-2, EC Number 479-710-1 was investigated in accordance with the standardised guideline OECD 301D. 1,1'-Bis(ferrocenyl)octane, CAS Number 501410-94-2, EC Number 479-710-1 is not readily biodegradable. In the 28 day OECD 301D study the substance demonstrated 3% biodegradation.
P/vP Ferrocene, CAS Number 102 -54 -5, EC Number 203 -039 -3
The ready biodegradability of iron(2+) dicyclopenta-2,4-dienide (Ferrocene), CAS Number 102-54-5, EC Number 203-039-3 was investigated in accordance with the standardised guideline OECD 301B. In this study ferrocene failed to meet the criteria for ready biodegradability. However, it is regarded as Inherently biodegradable since by day 27 degradation was 56%, rising to 73% by day 41. Degradation occurs in a linear pattern so, by extrapolation, 100% mineralisation will occur.
Therefore, inherent biodegradation of 1,1"-isopropylideneferrocene, CAS Number 12609-95-5, EC Number 235-719-0, is to be expected.
B/vB
The log octanol-water (Log Koc) partition coefficient of the reference substance 1,1"-isopropylidenediferrocene, CAS Number 12609-95-9, EC Number 235-719-0 was investigated using KOWWIN v 1.68, (EPI Suite version 4.11).
The log octanol-water (Log Koc) partition coefficient of the reference substance 1,1"-isopropylidenediferrocene, CAS Number 12609-95-9, EC Number 235-719-0 was estimated to be 7.21.
Furthermore, the bioconcentration factor was estimated to be 1.047E+004 using BCFBAF (v3.01), EPI suite (v4.11)
The read across sunstance, 1,1-bis-(ferrocenyl)octane is potentially a B based on the Log Pow of 4.6 +/- 0.18 in a study performed to OECD guideline 107.
The read-across substance Ferrocene is regarded as not B / vB based on Log Kow <= 4.5: In a Study performed to OECD Guideline 107, ferrocene had a log Pow of 3.711 at 22°C
T
1) In a Study performed on ferrocene to OECD Guideline 211, NOEC of <0.01 mg/l was reported.
2) In a study performed on ferrocene to OECD Guideline 422, ferrocene was found to have reproductive and developmental effects and is classified as a Reproductive toxicant category 2
3) In repeated dose studies (oral and dermal) performed on ferrocene, ferrocene was found to have repeated dose effects and is classified as STOT RE 2 (oral and inhalation) and R48/20/22.
Conclusion on T properties: T
By implication 1,1"-isopropylideneferrocene [CAS Number 12609-95-5, EC Number 235-719-0 may therefore be regarded as a T.
1,1'-bis-(ferrocenyl)octane is not regarded as T since :-
LC50 (fish), OECD 203, > 0.45 mg/L
EC50 (Daphnia), > 0.36 mg/L
EC40 (algae), OECD 201, > 0.36 mg/L
