Description of key information
Based on a visual evaluation, the test substance is an organic, amber-coloured, viscous liquid with a sulfur odour.
The melting point was not determined because the substance is a viscous liquid at 20 C and 1013 hPa. The Pour Point is -48 degrees C.
Analysis by TGA indicates the test substance decomposes before boiling. The test material’s weight loss associated with decomposition occurred at 158 and 258 degrees C.
The relative density of the test material, determined according to ASTM D4052 is 1.08 at 15.6 deg. C.
The Particle size distribution (Granulometry) study has been omitted in accordance with Column 2 of Annex VII Section 7.14. The substance is not marketed or used in a solid or granular form and as such this study is not required
The vapour pressure of the test substance is 1.6 Pa at 25 deg. C. The test substance did not change in appearance under the conditions of the test.
The test substance is a mixture of components with logPow values ranging from log Pow 3.7 to 7.81.
The water solubility of the test material is 0.105 mg/L at 20 C.
In accordance with Column 2 of Annex VII Section 7.6 , the Surface tension study does not need to be conducted if the water solubility is below 1mg/L at 20 deg C.
The flash point of the test material was determined in accordance with the standard test method ISO 2719 (Pensky-Martens Closed Cup). The flash point was determined to be 131 °C at 760 mmHg.
The auto-ignition study was conducted according to the guideline in EU Method A.15. The auto-ignition temperature of the test material was determined to be 274 ± 5 deg. C
The study Flammability (solids) does not need to be conducted on a liquid
In accordance with Column 2 of section 7.11 of REACH Annex VII, the Explosiveness study need not been conducted if there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the substance. Based on the known chemical and physical properties of the substance and its chemical structure, a negative result is predicted for the A14 Explosive Properties test of Council Regulation (EC) no 440/2008. As such it was considered justified to omit the test.
The Oxidising properties study need not been conducted if there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with oxidising properties and hence the classification procedure does not need to be applied.
The test material is stable for at least 21 days as a solution in Arachis oil BP.
In accordance with REACH Annex IX (7.16), the Dissociation constant study does not need to be conducted if it is scientifically not possible to perform the test due to a lack of sensitive analytical methods. Additionally, at a water solubility of 0.105 mg/L, the substance is essentially water insoluble.
The viscosity of the test material was measured according to ASTM D445 guidelines at two temperatures: At 100 C the viscosity is 4.954 cSt; at 40 C the viscosity is 27.115 cSt.
