Description of key information
There is no experimental data available for the substance. However, there is a guideline and GLP bacterial reverse mutation study available for the closely related substance 2 -(2 -butoxyethoxy)ethanol (DEGBE), which was negative in all strains with and without metabolic activation. A reliable (Q)SAR predicts that both DEGBE and DEGiBE (2 -(2 -isobutoxyethoxy)ethanol) will be both negative in this assay, with no structural alerts noted. This supports the case that the data from DEGBE can be extrapolated to DEGiBE. The data from DEGBE is sufficient to fulfill the data requirements for this end point and to conclude that DEGiBE does not need to be classified as a mutagen. No further information is required at the current registration tonnage band.
