Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Link to relevant study record(s)
- Endpoint:
- auto-ignition temperature (liquids)
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- key study
- Study period:
- Experimental dates: 01-03 April 2019
- Reliability:
- 2 (reliable with restrictions)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- guideline study with acceptable restrictions
- Remarks:
- The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. The substance is adequately identified, but some data on composition is missing. Therefore validation applies with restrictions.
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- EU Method A.15 (Auto-Ignition Temperature (Liquids and Gases))
- Version / remarks:
- (2008)
- Qualifier:
- according to guideline
- Guideline:
- BS-4056 (Method of test for ignition temperature of gases and vapours)
- Version / remarks:
- 1966
- Deviations:
- yes
- Remarks:
- Due to the extremely viscous nature of the test item, samples were added by weight rather than injection of different volumes.
- GLP compliance:
- yes (incl. QA statement)
- Remarks:
- issued 01/08/2019
- Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Physical State/Appearance: Pale yellow extremely viscous liquid
Storage Conditions: Room temperature (15 to 25°C), dark, in a clear glass bottle within a black bag - Key result
- Auto-ignition temperature:
- 260 °C
- Atm. press.:
- 1 000 - 1 025 mBar
- Conclusions:
- This parameter/method is not relevant for classification; however the information is useful regarding process safety and potential additional fire hazard.
No particular hazard is anticipated in normal conditions of storage. - Executive summary:
The auto-ignition temperature of the substance was tested under GLP, according to BS 4056 standard (listed in EU A.15 guideline).
Weighted amounts (instead of drops, due to high viscosity) of the test substance were placed into a heated flask, until the lowest temperature at which ignition occurs was determined.
The auto-ignition temperature of test item was found at 260°C at ca atmP.
Reference
The lowest auto-ignition temperature was observed as a yellow flame, for a test volume of 1000 mg, and a time-lag of 169 sec.
Description of key information
No particular hazard is anticipated in normal conditions of storage.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
- 260 °C
Additional information
A reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized BS/EU method and under GLP, is available. Despite restrictions on test item composition, it is considered as a key study. The result is retained as key data.
This parameter is not relevant for classification, however the information is useful regarding process safety and potential additional fire hazard.
