- to aquatic invertebrates: EC50(48h) = 0.03 mg/L (mean measured) for Daphnia magna (OECD 202)
- to algae: ErC50(120h) = 0.22 mg/L (mean measured) for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata (EPA OPP 122-2)
Chronic toxicity:
- to Fish: NOEC (35 d) = 0.0049 mg/L (mean measured) for Pimephales promelas (EPA OPP 72-4)
- to aquatic invertebrates: NOEC (21d) = 0.0036 mg/L (mean measured) for Daphnia magna (EPA OPP 72-4)
- to algae: ErC10(120h) = 0.0087 mg/L (mean measured) for Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata (EPA OPP 122-2)
Classification justification according to CLP
According to the data listed above Bromoxynil octanoate is not rapidly biodegradable and has a low potential to bioaccumulate (BCF:≤500). The most sensitive acute effect was obtained for Daphnia magna with an EC50(48 h) of 0.03 mg/L. The most sensitive chronic effect was the reported NOEC (21 d) of 0.0036 mg/L in a chronic toxicity study on Daphnia magna. Based on the available data substance is need to be classified and labelled as environmentally hazardous category Acute 1 and Chronic 1. This in line with harmonised classification of Bromoxynil octanoate on Annex VI to CLP. The harmonised classification and labelling is Aquatic Acute 1 and Aquatic Chronic 1 according to Annex VI to CLP.
M-factor for acute: 10
M-factor for chronic toxicity: 10
