Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information
Additional information
Reliable short-term toxicity test results are available for freshwater fish (Danio rerio), invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) for the registered substance, 3-(triethoxysilyl)propanethiol (CAS 14814-09-6, EC No. 238-883-1):
Fish (96 h): LC50 = >2.55 mg/l. This is equivalent to >1.65 mg/l when expressed in terms of the silanol hydrolysis product, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propanethiol.
Invertebrates (48 h): EC50 = 2.71 mg/l. This is equivalent to 1.75 mg/l when expressed in terms of the silanol hydrolysis product, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propanethiol.
Algae (72 h): ErC50 = 32.2 mg/l, ErC10 = 11.8 mg/l and NOErC = 4.8 mg/l. These values are equivalent to 20.8, 7.6 and 3.1 mg/l when expressed in terms of the silanol hydrolysis product, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propanethiol.
A reliable long-term toxicity to Daphnia magna test result is also available with the registered substance:
A 21-day NOEC value of 0.081 mg/l has been determined for the effects of the test substance (3-(triethoxysilyl)propanethiol (CAS 14814-09-6, EC No. 238-883-1)) on survival and reproduction of Daphnia magna, based on time weighted average measured concentrations of the parent substance.
An activated sludge respiration inhibition 3-hour EC50 463 mg/l and EC10 32.6 mg/l were determined in a reliable study with the read-across substance, 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propane-1-thiol (CAS 4420-74-0).
Supporting data have been read across from 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propane-1-thiol (CAS 4420-74-0,EC No. 224-588-5), to support the existing chemical safety assessment and calculate indicative PNECs for the silanol hydrolysis product. Both the registered substance and the read-across substance hydrolyse to 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propanethiol.
Reliable short-term toxicity test results are available for freshwater fish (Danio rerio), invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus), read across from 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propane-1-thiol (CAS 4420-74 -0, EC No. 224-588-5):
Fish (96 h): LC50 = 439 mg/l. This is equivalent to 345 mg/l when expressed in terms of the silanol hydrolysis product, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propanethiol.
Invertebrates (48 h): EC50 = 6.7 mg/l. This is equivalent to 5.3 mg/l when expressed in terms of the silanol hydrolysis product, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propanethiol.
Algae (72 h): ErC50 = 931 mg/l, ErC10 = 92 mg/l and NOErC = 40 mg/l. These values are equivalent to 731, 72 and 31 mg/l when expressed in terms of the silanol hydrolysis product, 3-(trihydroxysilyl)propanethiol.
Refer to IUCLID Section 6 endpoint summary (CSR Section 7.0) for further discussion of the approach to chemical safety assessment and justification for read across.
