Conclusion on classification
The substance is classified for the environment based on the results of acute toxicity studies in fish, Daphnia and algae.
The results of the acute toxicity studies are shown below:
Acute toxicity to fish: 96 -hour LC50 0.4 mg/L; 96-hour LOEC: 0.37 mg/L; 96-hour NOEC: 0.17 mg/L
Acute toxicity to Daphnia: 48-Hour EC50 0.098 mg/l; 48-Hour NOEC 0.056 mg/l
Acute toxicity to algae (growth): 72 -hour EC50: 0.084 mg/l; 72 -hour NOEC: 0.022 mg/l
Acute toxicity to algae (biomass): 72 -hour EC50: 0.049 mg/L
All studies showed effects, the most sensitive species being the algae with a growth rate EC50 result of 0.084 mg/l.
According to CLP classification criteria a substance requires classification where acute toxicity results indicate toxicity at levels < 1 mg/l. As all three species showed toxicity below 1 mg/l the substance can be considered to be classified as Acute Category 1 (Acute (short-term) aquatic hazard.
Furthermore biodegradation studies indicate that although the substance shows possible inherent biodegradability, the material cannot be considered to be readily biodegradable. The substance also has a log Pow of 5.4, indicating that it may have the potential to bioaccumulate in the environment.
Therefore the substance is also classified for Chronic (long-term) aquatic hazard, as Chronic Category 1.
