Description of key information
Flammability of liquids is mainly determined by the flash point that has been described to be -29 °C. Thus, 2-chorobutane is considered as a highly flammable liquid. 2-Chlorobutane is reported as having a lower explosion limit in air at 2.0 Volume percent and an higher explosion limit of 8.8 Volume percent.

2 -Chlorobutane, being a liquid at ambient temperatures is appropriately tested for flammabilitzy by determination of flashpoint. The result used for hazard assessment is -29 °C (closed cup) and in combination with its boiling point of 68 °C results in classification as Flammable liquid, Category 2 (H225 Highly flammable liquid and vapour), respectively highly flammable R11.
Justification for classification or non-classification
Flammability of liquids is mainly determined by the flash point that has been described to be -29 °C. Thus in combination with the boiling point of 68 °C, 2-chorobutane is considered as a highly flammable liquid (Flammable liquid, Category 2 - H225 Highly flammable liquid and vapour) as decribed by the decision criteria in CLP (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008) and (Highly Flammable, symbol F, R11) in DSD (Directive 67/548/EEC). 2 -Chlorobutane is moderately soluble in water not reacting with water forming pyrohoric decomposition products, and is stable in air, routinely handled in air in use and consequently not pyrophoric itself. Thus classification for pyrophoricity and reactivity towards water to form flammable gases is not required.
