Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

A ready biodegradation study according to OECD 301 is not available for the substance. Since, however, the substance belongs to the same category as CAS 14481-60-8 - the categories worst case representative - biodegradation results of CAS 14481-60-8 are valid for read across to characterize the biodegradation of CAS 58353-68-7. The justification for read-across and the category definition is provided in Chapter 13.

Since the substance has a similar composition than CAS 14481-60-8 and since the structures of the main components of both substance are almost identical (except on double bound of the C hydrophilic C-stain, the biodegradation result of CAS 14481-60-8 were use to perform read-across to CAS 58353-68-7. The following compares the structural formula of both CAS numbers:

CAS 14481-60-8 :

CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCNC(=O)CC(C(=O)[O-])S(=O)(=O)[O-].[Na+].[Na+]

CAS 58353-68-7:

CCCCCCCC/C=C\CCCCCCCCNC(=O)CC(C(=O)[O-])S(=O)(=O)[O-].[Na+].[Na+]

Biodegradation results of CAS 14481-60-8 were use as key study results for CAS 58353 -68 -7.

The results of the key study, which is appropriate for the assessment of ready biodegradability of surfactants according to 648/2004/EEC, clearly show that the substance is readily biodegradable. Based on this finding, further exposure and risk assessment for environmental compartments like surface water bodies, sediments and soils is not required, according to the requirements of REACH.
