The test substance is a gas. The melting point measurement is waived. In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII, information requirement section 7.2, this study does not need to be conducted below a lower limit of -20°C. Since this substance is a gas with a literature/measured melting/freezing point of -160.5°C (Lide, 1994-1995), measurement of this property is not required.
The boiling point measurement is waived. In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII, information requirement section 7.3, this study does not need to be conducted since the substance is a gas. The literature value for the boiling point is -72.0°C (Lide, 2009), indicating the substance is a gas.
The density measurement is waived. In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, information requirement section 7.4, a relative density study does not need to be conducted as the substance is a gas. An estimation based on calculation was made from molecular weight and the Ideal Gas Laws, ρ = m/V. At 1 atm and 25ºC (298.15 K), 1 mol of test substance has the volume of 24.45 L and the molecular weight is 46.02. Therefore, ρ = 46.02/24.45 = 1.88 g/L = 0.00188 g/cm3.
The vapour pressure is estimated as 1.71E6 Pa calculated at 25°C with MPBPWIN v. 1.43 (QMRF and QPRF available in IUCLID5).
The octanol/water partition co-efficient (log Kow) is estimated at 0.8975 derived using the OECD Toolbox (QMRF and QPRF available in IUCLID5).
The water solubility of the test substance is 9400 mg/L at 80°C and 3.4 mPa (Kirk-Othmer, 1991). Water solubility of gases is typically measured in a closed system, under pressure, to achieve saturation in water. A value of 9400 mg/L is reported and was measured at elevated temperature (80°C) and pressure 3.4 mPa. This value represents a worse case, highest water solubility value for the substance and under environmental conditions at lower temperature and pressure the water solubility is expected to be lower. In addition, in open systems, the solubility of this gaseous substance is also significantly lower due to its volatility (vapour pressure = 1.71E6 Pa at 25°C). The HL using this high water solubility value demonstrates that the substance will compartmentalize into air. Therefore, the solubility value still represents a much higher concentration than would ever be expected under environmental conditions.
The surface tension measurement is waived. In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII, information section requirement 7.6 this study does not need to be conducted since, based on structure, surface activity is not expected and no surface-active properties would be predicted for this compound. Surface activity is not a desired property of the material.
The flash point measurement is waived. In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, information requirement section 7.9, this study does not need to be conducted based on the physical state of the molecule. According to ECHA guidance, flash point is only relevant to liquids and low melting solids.
The hot flame Auto Ignition Temperature (AIT) of the test substance is 370°C, as determined by EC Testing Method A15 (DuPont-18946-388).
The test substance is extremely flammable. The lower flammability limit is 2.6 % volume in air. The upper flammability limit is 21.7 % volume in air (NFPA, 2002).
The test substance is non-explosive. In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII, information requirement section 7.11, explosivity testing does not need to be conducted based on a structural assessment of the substance. Examination of the structure indicates that there are no groups associated with explosive properties.
The test substance is non-oxidising. In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII, information requirement section 7.13, measurement of oxidising properties does not need to be conducted based on structural assessment of the substance. The substance contains no oxidising groups and all fluorine atoms are bonded directly to carbon atoms.
The granulometry measurement is waived. In accordance with Column 2 adaptation statement of REACH Annex VII, information requirement section 7.14, this study does not need to be conducted for liquids or gases.
Measurement of stability in organic solvents is waived. In accordance with REACH Annex XI Section 2, with reference to the guidance mentioned in REACH Art 13 (3) the test guidance “ECHA guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a Endpoint specific guidance” needs to be respected. This guidance indicates that this study does not need to be conducted since the stability in organic solvents is not considered critical. This would be assessed in individual studies where organic solvents are used.
Measurement of dissociation constant is waived. In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, information requirement section 7.16, this study does not need to be conducted as the test substance has no dissociable groups. According to ECHA Chapter 7 guidance, measurement of pKa is irrelevant as the substance cannot dissociate due to a lack of relevant functional groups.
The viscosity measurement is waived. In accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, information requirement section 7.17, this study does not need to be conducted on solid materials or gases. According to ECHA Chapter 7 guidance, viscosity measurement is only relevant to liquids.
