Description of key information

Hydrolysis: Key study: A 50% aqueous solution of sodium trichloroacetate is hydrolyzed only to about 1% within 4-6 weeks at 20-25 ºC an it is completely hydrlyzed within 1 hour at 100 ºC.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Hydrolysis: Key study: A 50% aqueous solution of sodium trichloroacetate is hydrolyzed only to about 1% within 4-6 weeks at 20-25 ºC an it is completely hydrlyzed within 1 hour at 100 ºC.

The hydrolytic cleavage of the sodium salt causes the appearance of soda and chloroform. Especially, it decomposes when its aqueous solution is exposed to heat, the decomposition is particularly fast in the presents of bases.
