Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Remarks:
Pyrophoric liquids/solids (migrated from section 'Flammability')
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2004
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Acceptable, well-documented study report which meets basic scientific principles.
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
other: VDI 2263 sheet 1
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Determination of the combustion class number ("Brennzahl" BZ).

When an ignition source (flame or hot wire) was applied at ambient temperature, the sample caught fire briefly.

The product showed decomposition and liquidation.

By removing the ignition source, the flame went out again.

The same behaviour was observed at 100 °C.

As the test substance does not burn by itself, the determination of the burning rate is not required.

The combustion behaviour of the product is characterised by the combustion class number BZ 2 (catches fire briefly and extinguishes rapidly).

Interpretation of results:
non flammable
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
The combustion class number of the test item is BZ 2 (catches fire briefly and extinguishes rapidly). No classification as a flammable solid class 4.1 of the transport regulations required.
Executive summary:

The flammability of the test item was tested by determination of the combustion class number (BZ). The combustion class number was found to be BZ 2 (catches fire briefly and extinguishes rapidly). The test item is therefore not flammable solid.
