PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

C.I. Direct Blue 264 fulfills the P and vP criterion. But as the B (vB) criterion and the T criterion are not fulfilled C.I. Direct Blue 264 is neither PBT nor vPvB.


N-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]-1,3-dioxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-isoindole-5-sulfonamide is the major degradation product (concentration of 9.8% at day 28) identified from the degradation of C.I. Direct Blue 264 in water. A PBT assessment indicates it is P/vP and not B. Therefore, it is neither PBT nor vPvB.


Six other degradation products were identified by structure but could not be quantified due to inseparable and complex signal peaks which contains the signal of both parent and metabolite constituents. As a result, it is not certain that the degradation products are present in relevant quantities.


C.I. Direct Blue 264 is not PBT. Similar to the major degradation product (N-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]-1,3-dioxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-isoindole-5-sulfonamide), the other 6 minor degradation products are not also expected to be PBT. Although only limited data are available for these 6 structures, the retention times on reversed phase HPLC columns indicate similar retention properties compared to the other parent constituents of the substance. Therefore, the logKow values of these metabolites are in the logKow-range of the parent substance which is not B. As these metabolites are not B they cannot be PBT or vPvB.
