- Details on experimental conditions:
- EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN
- Soil preincubation conditions (duration, temperature if applicable): stored at 5 +/- 3 °C
- Soil condition: air dried
- Soil (g/replicate): 50 g dry weight
- Control conditions, if used (present differences from other treatments, i.e., sterile/non-sterile, experimental conditions): same conditions without substance
- No. of replication controls, if used: 5
- No. of replication treatments: 5 vessels of each soil
- Test apparatus (Type/material/volume): The soil and solvent were separated by centrifugation. The weight of extract was recorded, and duplicate weighed aliquots (1.0 mL) were taken for LSC.
The soil debris remaining after extraction was air-dried, weighed, homogenized and duplicate weighed aliquots (approximately 0.3 g) were taken for combustion and LSC.
- Details of traps for CO2 and organic volatile, if any: Solid samples were combusted in oxygen using a Harvey OX501 sample oxidizer. Combustion products were absorbed into Oxysolve C-400 combined CO2 sorbent and scintillator (Zinsser Analytic).
- Identity and concentration of co-solvent: Dichloromethane & Tetrahydrofuran approx. 200 mL.
Experimental conditions (in addition to defined fields)
- Moisture maintenance method: addition of purified water
- Continuous darkness: Yes
SAMPLING DETAILS
- Sampling intervals: Duplicate samples of each soil type were taken for analysis immediately after test item application and after 7, 14, 28, 60 and 119 days of incubation.
- Sampling method for soil samples: Extraction of the soil began on the day of sampling. The soil was extracted with a series of solvents (approximately 200 mL) as detailed below by sonicating at ambient temperature for 15 minutes then shaking for 15 minutes at ambient temperature.

Description of key information
There was no significant decline in the levels of test item in the four soils incubated under aerobic conditions. Test item was detected at a mean of between 87.6 and 91.5% applied radioactivity at time zero and between 85.8 and 90.6% after 119 days of incubation. One minor unidentified component was detected and accounted for a mean of ≤1.8% applied radioactivity. Test item was also incorporated into bound (non-extractable) radioactivity and mineralized to carbon dioxide. Only minor degradation is observed. Volatile radioactivity, 14CO2, accounted for a maximum of 5.7 % applied radioactivity after 119 days.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
Additional information
The biodegradation in four aerobic soil of (Z)-N-octadecyldocos-13-enamide (CAS 10094-45-8) has been studied in four soils under laboratory conditions at 12°C according to OECD 307 (Covance, 2020). The degradation of 14C-labelled test item was measured in four soils in order to derive DT50-values.
Mean total recoveries of radioactivity (mass balances) for the four soils were between 97.6% and 102.7% applied radioactivity.
The proportion of radioactivity extracted from soil accounted for a mean of ≥ 90.2 % applied radioactivity throughout. Mean non-extractable radioactivity accounted for a mean of ≤ 11.0 % applied radioactivity throughout. Volatile radioactivity, 14CO2, accounted for a maximum of 5.7 % applied radioactivity after 119 days.
