Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove patient to a site away from the accident. In cases of

anoxia, give oxygen and seek medical attention. In all

cases, DO NOT give adrenalin or similar medication

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with water, seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Wash the mouth. If the patient is unconcious, give oxygen

and seek medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Combustion products may contain carbon monoxide, hydrogen

fluorides and chlorides together with chloro- and

fluoro-carbonyls (eg phosgene). Wear a self-contained

breathing apparatus and protective clothing. Protect

equipment with water spray. Evacuate, if possible, persons

exposed to fumes: if not, spray them with cold water.

Suitable extinguishing agents are water, carbon dioxide,

powder and foam.

Product determined by test: N

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Eliminate naked flames and remove hot surfaces. If a leak

occurs in a confined space, evacuate area and only use

equipment provided. Ensure a self-contained breathing

apparatus is provided (risk of anoxia). Extract vapours as

soon as possible; if not, cover with foams. In all cases,

replace the stopper in the drum, if possible. Try to dam the

liquid and pump into closed receptacles. Avoid accumulation

of vapours in depressions. If necessary, disperse vapour

using ventilation or water spray. For small quantities

absorb the substance using suitable material (sand,

vermiculite) and store the waste in a sealed drum for

Handling and storage

Handling: Avoid inhalation of vapour (sources of vapour should be

foreseeable). Avoid contact with skin and eyes (wear

neoprene and safety glasses). Do not smoke, ban naked flames

and avoid hot surfaces. The substance is difficult to ignite

but take precautions as there is a lag time. Carefully open

drums, the contents may be under pressure. Do not enter a

storage area or tank without observing the safety

Storage: Store in hermetically sealed reinforced drums that have

vents and which are kept in an efficiently ventilated

location below 50 deg C and away from sunlight. Avoid alloys

containing >2% magnesium.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Exothermic reactions with certain reactive metals are

possible (alkali metals, beryllium, magnesium, zinc and

aluminum dust).

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery for reuse when used as a solvent is possible

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not recommended
