Melting point:
The Freezing point of trans-menthone; CAS No. 89-80-5 was determined using Freezing Temperature Method No freezing was observed up to -12.8 °C.
Boiling Point:
The mean boiling point of trans-menthone (CAS No. 89-80-5) was 203°C at 967.9 hPa.
Density:
The mean density of trans-menthone (CAS No. 89-80-5) was found to be 0.9963 g/cm³ at 20°C and 968.2hPa.
Particle size distribution:
In accordance with column 2 of Annex VII of the REAcH regulation this end point was considered for waiver since the given chemical trans-menthone (CAS No. 89-80-5) is a liquid and is expected to be marketed or used in a non solid or granular form.
Vapour pressure:
Vapour pressure of trans-menthone (CAS No. 89-80-5) is estimated to be 0.0370 kPa (0.278 mm Hg) at temperature 25 Deg C.
Partition coefficient:
Based on the available data from peer reviewed journal, the partition coefficient (log Pow) value of the substance (2R,5S)-5-methyl-2-(propan-2-yl)cyclohexan-1-one was determined by using the reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography method and was evaluated to be 3.05 with a standard error of 0.07 at a temperature of 37°C and pH 7.2, respectively. Based on this value, chemical (2R,5S)-5-methyl-2-(propan-2-yl)cyclohexan-1-onecan be considered to be hydrophilic in nature.
Water solubility:
The water solubility of trans-menthone (CAS No. 89-80-5) is determined to be 688 mg/L at temperature 25 Deg C.
Surface tension:
Based on the data from ACD labs, surface tension for trans-menthone (CAS No. 89-80-5) was predicted to be 0.0272 N/m.
Flash point:
The mean flash point of trans-menthone (CAS No. 89-80-5) was 72°C at 968.5 hPa.
Auto flammability:
trans-menthone (CAS No. 89-80-5) did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°Cpressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that trans-menthone (CAS No. 89-80-5) is not auto-flammable.
Flammability:
trans-menthone (CAS No 89-80-5) does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that trans-menthone (CAS No 89-80-5) is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus trans-menthone (CAS No 89-80-5) was considered as non-flammable.
Explosiveness:
the study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.
Oxidizing properties:
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance contains oxygen or halogen atoms which are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.
pH:
The pH of 1% w/v emulsion of the test item trans-menthone (CAS No 89-80-5) was 3.78 at 26.5 °C.
Viscosity:
Kinematic viscosity (experimental) of trans-menthone (CAS No. 89-80-5) at 20°C and 40°C is 18.5592 mm²/sec and 16.7904 mm²/s, respectively. Dynamic viscosity (calculated) of trans-menthone (CAS No. 89-80-5) at 20°C and 40°C is 18.4905 mPa.S and 16.7282 mPa.S, respectively.
