Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short-term toxicity data to aquatic invertebrates and toxicity to marine and freshwater algae are read across from zinc and soluble zinc compounds.

Additional information

There are no data available on acute toxicity to algae or invertebrates for zinc silicate. However, the transformation/dissolution (TD) tests conducted with zinc silicate (Martinez, 2016b) have revealed that zinc is released in large amounts in test medium at pH 6. As the substance is expected to release the ionic zinc in the environment, it is justifed to read across the acute toxicity to algae and to invertebrates data from zinc and soluble zinc compounds to zinc silicate. See attached justification in IUCLID section 13 for further details.
