Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The boiling point of Butylidenebis [2-tert-butyl-5-methyl-p-phenylene]- P,P,P’,P’-tetratridecylbis(phosphine) was determined by Siwoloboff method and determined to be 548.35 ± 0.10 K (275.2 ± 0.1 °C) at normal atmospheric pressure (760 mm Hg).  However, these results are most likely due to the volatilization of alkyl alcohols that may be generated as substance decomposes/hydrolyzes.  For example, the boiling point of isotridecanol is reported as 268 degrees C in the REACH registration dossier.

This key value should be considered a worst case boiling point and most likely driven by any alcohols present in the diphosphite or generated by the heating process (decomposition/hydrolysis).

Modelled boiling point data were also provided in the dossier for comparison. Using the MPBVP v1.43 model in EPISUITE 4.1 the estimated boiling poin was 1102.00 deg C (Adapted Stein and Brown Method).
