Description of key information

Appearance:

The test chemical physically appears in the form of white viscous liquid.

Freezing point:

The freezing point of test chemical was determined to be < 0 °C.

Boiling Point:

The boiling point of test chemical was determined by conducting experimental study according the OECD Guideline 103 (Boiling Point) and according to Siwoloboff method. The mean boiling point was determined to be 104.3°C at 979.1 hPa.

Density:

The density of test chemical was determined by performing experimental study using ASTM 854-02: Standard Test Methods for Specific Gravity of Soil Solids by Water Pycnometer/Method adapted from IS 4730:1994 (Reaffirmed 2003) Method for determination of Density of Liquids. The density of test chemical was determined to be 1.0534 g/cm³ at 20 °C and 978.9hPa.

Particle size distribution:

The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is marketed or used in a non solid or granular form

Vapour pressure:

Modified Grain method was used to estimate the vapour pressure of test chemical using MPBPVP v1.43 of EPI SUITE. The vapour pressure of test chemical at 25 °C was determined to be 6.41E-13 Pa.

Partition coefficient:

The partition coefficient (log Pow) value of the test chemical was estimated to be -1.28 dimensionless. Based on this value, test chemical is considered to be hydrophilic in nature.

Water solubility:

The water solubility of test chemical was determined by performing experiment according to OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility). The mean water solubility value of test chemical was determined to be 23.676 g/L. By considering this water solubility value test chemical is considered to be very soluble in water.

Surface tension:

Surface tension of test chemical was determined using the drop point method and was evaluated to be 35 mN/m.

Flash point:

A study was performed to determine the flash point of test chemical at atmospheric pressure. The study was conducted in accordance with ASTM Designation: D93–15a Standard Test Methods for Flash Point by Pensky-Marten’s Closed Cup Method. The mean flash point of test chemical was determined to be 95 °C at 979.4 hPa. By considering this flash point value it is concluded that test chemical is non flammable.

Auto flammability:

Test chemical did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that test chemical is not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

Flash point of test chemical is observed to be at 95°C. Based on criteria mentioned in CLP regulation the chemical has flash point greater than 60°C, hence the substance is considered to be non-flammable.

Explosiveness:

The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.

Oxidizing properties:

The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid

Stability in organic solvents and identity of relevant degradation products:

The study does not need to be conducted because the stability of the substance is not considered to be critical.

pH:

An experiment was performed to determine the pH of test chemical according to the OECD Guideline 122 (Determination of pH, Acidity and Alkalinity).

pH value for 1% aqueous solution of test chemical was observed to be 5.19 at 24.3 °C which indicates that test chemical is acidic in nature.

Dissociation constant:

The study does not need to be conducted because the analytical method is not sensitive enough.

Viscosity:

An experiment was performed to determine the viscosity of test chemical by using OECD Test Guideline 114 (Viscosity of Liquids). In this experiment redwood viscometer was used. During the experiment, temperature of the test chemical was kept constant at 20°C. The same experiment was then repeated at test temperature of 40°C. Dynamic viscosity was then calculated by multiplying the values of kinematic viscosity and density of test chemical. Three readings were taken for each temperature (i.e. at 20 °C and 40 °C). The kinematic viscosity (experimental) at 20 °C and 40 °C was determined to be 36.3831 mm²/sec and 25.0211 mm²/sec, respectively and the dynamic viscosity (calculated) at 20°C and 40°C was determined to be 38.3259 mPa.S and 26.3572 mPa.S, respectively.
