Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets
Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.
The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data
First-aid measures
Emergency measure - Eyes: Flush eyes with copious amounts of water for at least 15
minutes. If irritation occurs seek immediate medical
attention.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash skin with copious amounts of soap and water. If
irritation occurs seek immediate medical attention.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek immediate medical attention.
Fire-fighting measures
chemical powder, alcohol or polymer foam.
Product arising from burning: The substance is combustible and will burn if involved in a
fire, evolving noxious fumes (eg carbon, nitrogen and
sulphur oxides). However, there is no experimental evidence
to support the anticipated combustion products.
Product determined by test: N
Protective equipment: Full protective clothing and self-contained breathing
apparatus must be worn.
Accidental release measures
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment conforming to
the relevant national or international standards as
mentioned in section 2.3.10.
Avoid dust formation by damping down with water. Absorb
spillages of solutions with a suitable inert material (eg
sand or soil). Carefully transfer the spillage to waste
containers, or use a sealed industrial vacuum machine.
Containers filled with waste material must be labelled in
the same way as the original containers.
Clean the spillage area with water and detergent.
Dispose of waste material by landfill or incineration in
accordance with local regulations.
Handling and storage
conditions of good industrial hygiene and in conformity with
any local regulations in order to avoid exposure.
Engineering controls may be necessary to reduce exposure to
the substance.
When exposure cannot be prevented or adequately controlled
appropriate personal protective equipment should be worn.
Such protective equipment should conform to the appropriate
international or national standards as follows;
Chemical protective gloves to Standard prEN374
Chemical resistant clothing to Standard EN368
Eye protection to Standard prEN166
When necessary appropriate respiratory protection should be
used. e.g. a dust mask conforming to EN149 FFP1.
The standards mentioned above should be regarded as a
minimum.
Storage: Store in a dry, cool well-ventilated area out of direct
sunlight.
Keep containers tightly closed when not in use. An inert
nitrogen gas seal or dessicant is needed after opening the
first time.
Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Polystyrene containers containing either 1Kg, 5Kg or 10Kg.

crystalline powder.

Disposal considerations
minor spillages or accidental discharge is not economically
or technically feasible, and such waste material will be
disposed of by incineration or landfill. In principle, it
may be possible to recover larger spillages of
uncontaminated material for subsequent use.
Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: The notification tests have shown that the substance is
potentially mutagenic.
No chemical treatment is practicable to neutralise this
potential hazardous health property.
The dust hazard will be minimised by appropriate handling
and storage.
Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Contaminated containers may be disposed of by landfill at an
authorised tip in accordance with local regulations.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance can be disposed of by incineration by burning
under controlled conditions at a licensed waste treatment
processor in accordance with local regulations. Stack gases
should be scrubbed, because noxious fumes (eg carbon,
nitogen and sulphur oxides) could be formed.
Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Large amounts of the substance should not normally be
discharged directly to the sewage system or the aqueous
environment. However, adverse effects on sewage treatment
systems would be unlikely.
Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance is used in skincare products. There are no
viable methods of recovering the substance once it has been
incorporated into the final product.
Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: There are no methods of neutralising any hazardous effects.
However, the skincare products contain only a small
percentage of the substance so minimising the exposure.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: The subtance is an ingredient in skincare products.
Containers containing the waste product are disposed of via
landfill or incineration. The amount of substance contained
in the final products is only a small percentage therefore
exposure is expected to be minimal.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Waste containing the substance may be disposed of by
incineration at an approved site by a licensed operator in
accordance with all regulations. Stack gases should be
scrubbed.
Public at large - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Skincare products containing the substance will be washed to
drain. The amount of substance contained in the final
products is minimal. The substance has been shown not to be
unduly toxic to WWTP micro-organisms.
