Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Under the conditions of the present study with Selenastrum capricornutum, BIBR 277-MEPDA-P degraded rather rapidly during the 72-hour test
period. This degradation coincided with a change of the color of the test solutions, i.e. the intensity of the yellowish color of the solutions increased
during the test period. This increase of the color of the test solutions contributed to the effect on algal growth only at higher concentrations,
i.e. concentrations of 10 mg/l or higher. At 10wer concentrations the indirect effect of the color of the test solutions did not significantly contribute
to the effect on algal growth.
BIBR 277-MEPDA-P inhibited cell growth and reduced growth rate of the fresh water algae species Selenastrum capricornutum significantly at nominal
concentrations of 1.0 mg/l and higher.
The EC50 for cell growth inhibition (ESC50:0-72h) was 1.7 mg/l with a 95 % confidence interval ranging from 1.5 to 2.1 mg/l. The EC10 for cell
growth inhibition (ESCI0:0-72h) was 0.79 mg/l with a 95 % confidence interval ranging from 0.62 to 0.92 mg/l.
The EC50 for growth rate reduction decreased as exposure progressed and the final ERC50:0-72h was 4.5 mg/l with a 95 % confidence interval
ranging from 3.0 to 8.6 mg/l.
The ECI0 for growth rate reduction (ERC10:0-72h) was 0.78 mg/l with a 95 % confidence interval ranging from 0.34 to 1.2 mg/l.
The NOEC was 0.68 mg/l for both cell growth inhibition and growth rate reduction.
