Statistical analysis indicated that the NOEC for all parameters was 7.98 mg/L based on the geometric mean measured concentrations. 2-(Ethylamino)ethanol did not have detrimental affects on fathead minnows under the conditions of this test.

The objective of the study was to define the lethal and sub-lethal effects of 2-(Ethylamino)ethanol on the early developmental and juvenile stages of the freshwater fish species Pimephales promelas, in accordance with OECD Chemical Testing Guideline No 210 Fish Early Life Stage Toxicity Test (July 1992).
The test was conducted at nominal 2-(Ethylamino)ethanol concentrations of 0.256, 0.64, 1.6, 4.0 and 10 mg/L. The concentration range was selected based on the results of a range-finding test. Dilution water controls were included in the test design, with duplicate test vessels at all exposure concentrations and four test vessels for the controls.
The test was conducted under continuous flow conditions, using embryos produced by brood fish that, on exposure, were ca 24 hours old since fertilisation and at early embryo to tail bud stage of development.
Chemical analysis of samples of water taken from each test vessel on Day 0 pre-hatch and Days 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28 post-hatch, gave overall mean measured exposure concentrations of 0.231, 0.482, 0.918, 2.89 and 7.98 mg/L respectively, corresponding to 90.1, 75.3, 57.4, 72.2 and 79.8 % of the nominal concentrations. As the mean measured concentrations were outside 80 - 120% of the nominal concentrations, toxicity of 2-(Ethylamino)ethanol to Pimephales promelas during the test has been expressed in terms of the geometric mean measured concentrations.
The hatching success of embryos in individual replicates was in the range 83 to 100%, and grouped replicates were in the range 91 to 96%. As hatching success in the control exceeded 66% (acceptance criteria for the test), the test is regarded as valid. Statistical analysis indicated that there were no significant effects on hatching success, post hatch larval survival or growth (weight or length) during exposure to the maximum mean measured test concentration (7.98 mg/L).
