Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

EC50 (72 h) 15.1 mg/L based on biomass (OECD 201)
NOEC (72 h) 1 mg/L based on biomass (OECD 201)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
15.1 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
1 mg/L

Additional information

The EC50 (72 h) and NOEC (72 h) based on biomass were calculated using data collected between zero and 72 h. In contrast, EC50 and NOEC based on growth rate were derived using data collected between 24 and 72 h, which makes the values less reliable.

Adoption of a conservative approach leads to a key value NOEC of 1 mg/L but, given the availability of more robust long-term toxicity data (for Daphnia magna), it is not considered necessary to classify methacrylonitrile as Aquatic Chronic 3 in accordance with the upper limit of the concentration range given by Regulation 286/2011.
