Additional information

The substance 5 -ethylidene-2 -trinorbornene (ENB), a structural isomer of 2 -vinylnorborn-2 -ene (VNB) with the same number of olefinic groups, was found to not be readily biodegradable when tested in a guideline study (<1% at day 28) by nonacclimated activated sludge based on measurement of headspace CO2 evolution. The BIOWIN QSAR predicts identical degrees of degradation would be seen for ENB and VNB suggesting that the results for ENB can be read across to VNB with a high degree of confidence. The QSAR also predicts ultimate degradation will however take place within a timeframe of weeks. Whilst there is no formal study available to verify this, the model would suggest potential for inherent biodegradability.
