Description of key information

The test substance decomposed at 260°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The boiling point of test substance was determined using a Büchi B545 melting point instrument. The study was performed in accordance with EU Method A. Triplicate determination of the melting point of vanillin and caffeine gave results of 81.2°C, 81.2°C, and 81.2°C (mean value: 81.2°C) and 236.1°C, 235.9°C, and 236.2°C (mean value: 236.1°C), respectively. These values were in good agreement with the literature values.

Accordingly, calibration was deemed satisfactory for analysis being undertaken.

When the sample of test substance was heated up to determine the boiling point, the colour of the test compound turned into dark red at a temperature of 260°C, indicating decomposition. No boiling point could be determined.
