- activated sludge, domestic, non-adapted
- Details on inoculum:
- Origin: Municipal sewage treatment plant Frankfurt- Sindlingen, Germany
Source: filtrated outlet of a municipal sewage treatment plant Frankfurt - Sindlingen, Germany
Pretreatment: aeration for 7 days
Used quantity: 0.5 ml/L
Preconditions: not pre-adapted to the test chemical and the reference chemical - Duration of test (contact time):
- 28 d
Initial test substance concentration
- Initial conc.:
- 4.5 mg/L
- Based on:
- test mat.
Parameter followed for biodegradation estimation
- Parameter followed for biodegradation estimation:
- O2 consumption
- Details on study design:
- A stock solution was prepared, adjusted to pH 7.7 by diluted NaOH solution and agitated for 28 hours. Final pH was 7.2. The tested sample being a saturated solution containing undissolved sediment was filtrated using a paper filter
Reference substance
- Reference substance:
- benzoic acid, sodium salt
Results and discussion
% Degradation
- Parameter:
- % degradation (O2 consumption)
- Value:
- 0
- Sampling time:
- 28 d
BOD5 / COD results
- Results with reference substance:
- The reference test using sodium benzoic acid sodium salt as reference substance provided a degradation of %Deg. = 83% after 28 days. The degradation of the reference substance after 10 days amounted to more than 60%. The %Degr. value is based on the ratio of measured CO2 consumption and the theoretical CO2 consumption.
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Interpretation of results:
- under test conditions no biodegradation observed
- Conclusions:
- The test item is not readily biodegradable (under the test conditions)
- Executive summary:
The ready biodegradability of the test item 2,4,5-trichloroaniline was determined with a non adapted activated sludge in the Closed Bottle Test for a period of 28 days according to OECD guideline 301 D.
Both test item replicates did not reach the 10 % level (beginning of biodegradation) within 28 days. After 28 days the biodegradation was 0 %.
The validity criteria of the guideline are fulfilled.
The test item must be regarded as
not readily biodegradable
after 28 days.
