One key study was identified that evaluated the toxicity of ethylbenzene to soil macro-organisms. This study reported on the toxicity of ethylbenzene determined using a paper contact test to the earthworm, Eisenia fetida, according to the OECD TG 207. Under the conditions of the study, the 48 hour LC50 (contact test) of ethylbenzene to Eisenia fetida was 0.047 mg/cm2. This study was considered reliable and given a Klimisch score of 2. For the contact test the concentration of test substance is expressed in mg/cm2. An additional, supporting study was available with a reliability score of 4, the 48-hr LC50 value was reported as 0.00493 mg/kg body weight.
