Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Additional information:

LLNA was conducted followed by Magnusson Kligman Maximization test. The rationale for the second test is that literature indicates that sometimes LLNA results are equivocal for unsaturated hydrocarbons not unlike myralene.

In the LLNA test, a positive result (Stimulatory index = 5.17) was seen at the highest concentration tested, which was 50%. The EC3 value was calculated to be 31.23%.

In the Magnusson Kligman test, sensitizaton was not seen at 10%, but at 20% dose, 45% of test subjects had skin reactions at 48 hours and 30% had reactions at 72 hours.

Given positive reactions in both tests, myralene is classified as a skin sensitizer.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Classified as skin sensitizer on the basis of LLNA and Magnusson Kligman results.
