Nominal / measured:
meas. (TWA)
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
growth rate
Details on results:
ErC50 and NOEC:
As the results of cell observation, the condition of cells in the 29.9 mg/L exposure level group was the same as the control.
As a result of the statistical analysis of the growth rate, a statistically significant difference was not found.

Appearance of test solution:
At the start of exposure, test solutions of 29.9 mg/L exposure level and control were colorless and clear. At the end of exposure, they were green due to algal growth.

Water quality and environment conditions:
The measured values of pH were 7.9 - 9.5. The pH of control varied more than the range described in the guideline (not varied more than 1.5 in usual case). Culture temperature in the incubator were 22.0 - 22.1°C.

Concentration of test item in test solution:
The measured concentrations of the test item in the test solutions were 139 mg/L at the start of exposure, 17.3 mg/L at 24 hours after the start of exposure, 15.5 mg/L at 48 hours after the start of exposure and 14.7 mg/L at the end of exposure. Those were 12.5%, 11.2% and 10.6% at the start of exposure, respectively. The time-weighted mean measured concentration was 29.9 mg/L.

Validity of test
a) Growth of control: the cells in the control cultures grew exponentially during the exposure. At the end of exposure, it increased to a factor of 62 or more of the number of initial cells in the control cultures. this meets the validity of test; the cell growth in the control cultures should increase by a factor of at least 16 at 72 hours after the start of exposure.

b) Specific growth rates of section-by-section control
The mean coefficient of variation for section-by-section specific growth rates in the control cultures was 28%. It meets the validity criteria of the test: the mean coefficient of variation in the control cultures must not exceed 35%.

c) Specific growth rates in replicate controls
The coefficient of variation of average specific growth rates in replicate control cultures was 1.8%. It meets the validity criteria of the test: the coefficient of variation in control cultures must not exceed 75.

Results with reference substance (positive control):
An algal growth inhibition test with potassium dichromate was periodically conducted. The latest data gave a result of ErC50 (0-3d) 1.3 mg/L. This value was within the stipulated range for the test facility.
