The test item is not flammable.
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Study period:
2003
Reliability:
4 (not assignable)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Only test result available
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: VDI 2263-1
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The combustibility index (German: Brennzahl) of a solid sample is tested in a flame propagating experiment.
GLP compliance:
no

The combustibility index of Neo Heliopan Hydro in this test is reported as BZ = 2 (After ignition the fire dies out rapidly) at 1 atm in standard air.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The combustibility index of the test item in this test according to VDI 2263-1 is reported as BZ = 2 (After ignition the fire dies out rapidly) at 1 atm in standard air.
Executive summary:

The test item showed a combustibility index of 2 (After ignition the fire dies out rapidly) in this test according to VDI 2263-1.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Study period:
2003
Reliability:
4 (not assignable)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Only test result available
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: VDE 0170/171
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The glowing temperature of solid sample is tested on a heating plate.
GLP compliance:
no

The glowing temperature of the test item in this test is reported as 270 °C at 1 atm in standard air.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
A test to determine the gloving temperature according to VDE 0170/171 resulted in a glowing temperature of 270 °C at ambient conditions. The substance did not show an open flame, starting to smolder at this temperature.
Executive summary:

The test item showed a glowing temeperature of 270 °C in this test according to VDE 0170/171.

Endpoint:
flammable gases
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water

Description of key information

Not flammable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

A preliminary screening test was performed: an air-rich Bunsen burner flame applied to the test material for minutes but failed to ignite the test material, thus it can be concluded that the test substance is not flammable. The test item also showed no reactivity towards air and in contact with water does not liberate any flammable gases as known by experience with the substance over decades. An additional test report according to VDI 2263 -1 (combustibility index of the test item in this test is reported as BZ = 2 After ignition the fire dies out rapidly) confirms that once ignited, the flame resulting from the substance dies out and fire does not spread. The glowing temperature was determined to be 270 °C.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance des not require classification for flammability of solids, flammability in contact with air or in contact with water according to CLP (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008) as the substance as such is not flammable as shown in a standard preliminary screening test.
