Measurement
Vapor Pressure at 100°F (Calculated): 2.733 mm Hg
The value at 25ºC is determined using the Antoine Equation by applying three standard coefficients for use in that equation, derived
by Boublik et al. from reliable raw data.Description of key information
The vapour pressure of a commercial hexan-1-ol product is 3.64 mBar (364 Pa) at ca. 38°C. A consistent and reliable measurement of 124 Pa at 25°C using a highly pure sample is available (Daubert and Danner, 1989).
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Vapour pressure:
- 364 Pa
- at the temperature of:
- 38 °C
Additional information
The vapour pressure of 364 Pa at ca. 38°C was determined for hexan-1-ol with the use of an isoteniscope method in accordance with ASTM D 2879. The result is considered to be reliable.
A consistent and reliable measurement of 124 Pa at 25°C using a highly pure sample is available (Daubert and Danner, 1989).
It is supported by a value of 79.6 Pa at 25°C for a pure product, taken from a reliable reference source Boublik et al, 1984).
The quantified value, determined with a pure substance at ambient temperature from Daubert and Danner is used in environmental modelling.
Discussion of trends in the Category of C6-24 linear and essentially-linear aliphatic alcohols:
As chain length increases, vapour pressure decreases. This is because molecular weight is higher and intermolecular forces in the substance are all higher.
