Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Dodecane-12-lactam is readily biodegradable. Therefore, a test is not required according to REACH Annex VIII, 9.2.2.1, column 2.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Due to the ready biodegradability of the test substance, the determination of hydrolysis is not necessary.

There are no experimental observations indicating significant hydrolysis under environmental conditions. Hydrolysis might be revealed during studies on water solubility and ecotoxicity. In particular, the homopolymers would break down rapidly in contact with water if the aliphatic amide function was liable to significant hydrolysis at room temperature. Polyamides are, however, used in textiles which are washed frequently even at elevated temperatures.
