Additional information

The diphenyl ether substance is a white crystaline solid at typical ambient temperatures, but melts to a clear liquid at approximately 27 °C. Although the substance sometimes occurs as this solid form during storage or transport, its manufacture and use occur strictly in the liquid form. Because the substance is not handled or processed in a granular form, there is virtually no potential for exposure to dusts/particles of the substance. The substance has a low vapor pressure of 2.7 Pa at 20 °C, and boils at 258 °C at standardard atmospheric pressure (101.3 kPa). The substance is only slightly soluble in water (18 mg/L), and has a moderate value of log Kow (4.21). If emitted to water, the substance would tend to sink as it slowly dissolves, as the density relative to that of water is 1.075. The dissolved substance will not significantly affect the surface tension of water. The measured flash point (115 °C) as well as lack of pyrophoric or explosive structural features indicate the substance to be non-flammable and non-explosive.
